Birthday Celebration ~continued

A few weeks ago we celebrated our sons 14th birthday.  I shared in the Birthday Breakfast post, that this years birthday theme was fishing.  The day was full,of fishing in the pond, an upcoming fishing trip as a birthday gift, and a low country boil.

southern cooking, low country boil,This celebration favorite was started with a shrimp and crab dip.  I used the Old Bay recipe,  substituting dairy free cream cheese.  

  • 1 block cream cheese
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 1/4 c shredded cheese
  • 2t Old Bay (lower sodium)
  • 1 can crab meat
  • 1/2 cup chopped shrimp 

Mix all ingredients until combined.  Being careful not to smash the shrimp and crab.  Spread in square glass dish, and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes, or until bubbly.  Serve with crackers or tortilla chips.

After dinner we enjoyed his favorite cake, 10-layer cake.  (Which ended up to be 9 layers; ran out of cake batter…). With a few Reese’s for decoration.  (Sorry for the candle holes, forgot to get a picture pre-candles)

It was a day full of fishing, and family fun.  How do you celebrate family birthday’s?
